We make Action Network and Action Builder, utilizing a unique cooperative development model to produce technology for the progressive movement. We are looking for a Business Development Manager to build major partnerships with the progressive organizations and companies, which will strengthen our organization and recruit new users to our technology. This person will be the face of our tools and our mission-driven approach to building technology at conferences and other places where progressives gather.

What You’ll Be Doing

We are looking for someone with deep knowledge of the ways progressives build power, a deep passion for using technology to affect social change, and a proactive approach to making connections and building alliances. Reporting directly to the President of Action Network, you’ll own a portfolio of new and growing partnerships which require gaining a depth of knowledge of our tools and the partners’ needs and values.

  • Build partnerships with other institutions in the progressive movement – such as foundations, major national advocacy organizations, training institutions and more – from initiation through to completion of a contract and then providing ongoing strategic support.
  • Lead our efforts to recruit large organizations to use and support our tools, gain thorough understanding of their unique needs and explore enterprise and custom solutions.
  • Ensure a regular pipeline of potential clients.
  • Work to meet client project needs through convening and strategic planning with our president and other senior staff in business development work, such as fundraising, partnership building, and recruiting new users
  • Coordinate sales, software and data development needs with other colleagues to ensure timely delivery of resources.
  • Represent us and our tools at conferences, meetings, and other gatherings, to potential partners of all sizes.
  • Maintain relationships with current Action Network and Action Builder users to make sure that they have the resources they need to be successful.

 

What You’ll Bring

Project management or leadership expertise, including at least 2 years experience within the progressive movement, including work at the national level.

  • Partner or client development, sales, and/or fundraising experience in a professional setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the use of technology to drive progressive change, with direct professional experience of the use and application of digital campaigns strongly preferred.
  • Comfort learning new tools and technical details quickly, and an ability to communicate those details accurately to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and project management skills.
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate with others in a diverse, respectful, and supportive environment.
  • Very strong writing skills and a strong ability to speak in public.
  • Comfort communicating via phone, videoconference, emails, and in person.

 

Salary and Benefits

This position has a salary range of $90,000-$105,000 commensurate with your experience. The employee will report directly to the president. The job is within the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union structure.
