Data and Analytics Manager

Beto for Texas | On-site | Short-term

Position Summary

Summary:
Beto for Texas is seeking full-time Data and Analytics Managers to lead teams of 2-4 analysts and engineers to develop and maintain our data infrastructure, provide analytical products, engage with other departments in our campaign, and coordinate work with our vendors. We aim to contact more voters than any campaign in Texas history, and that will require reliable, highly automated, easy to use data systems.

Responsibilities

    • Develop, maintain, operate, and troubleshoot processes and tools to support operations across our campaign, including organizing, events, social media, communications, research, fundraising, and/or paid media planning.
    • Develop automated, reliable data transfer systems, both within our campaign tools and with external partners.
    • Investigate, visualize, and explain patterns in our data that might help us get more votes for Beto.
    • Develop clear, intuitive, and accurate data visualizations for use in regular reports.
    • Acquire and integrate new data and tools that can help us automate workflows and provide higher-quality data products.
    • Regularly and systematically assess data quality and operational priorities – always provide the best available data for the job.
    • Assist with analysis, reporting, data production, troubleshooting, and other tasks assigned by the Data Director as needed.

Qualifications

    • At least 2 years or campaign cycles of experience supervising staff required.
    • At least 2 years or campaign cycles of data engineering or analytics experience required.
    • Must have demonstrated capability to clean and load data, transform large datasets, develop and validate novel calculations and metrics, and extract desired data accurately using SQL.
    • Must have demonstrated capability to independently compile, sort, filter, clean, visualize, and explain complex datasets using tools such as Google Sheets, Excel, Google Data Studio, Tableau, MatLab, R, and/or python.
    • Must have demonstrated capability to present key metrics and findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
    • Must be highly independent and self-motivated.
    • Must be comfortable working and interacting with staff and volunteers in an online environment.
    • Must be willing to relocate to Houston, TX within 1 month of starting date.

Preferences

    • Experience with Google BigQuery
    • Experience with any software tools used for voter contact, event management, social media publishing + analysis, or fundraising
    • Experience with commercial ETL software, such as Fivetran or Supermetrics
    • Excellent communications skills
    • Deeply ingrained belief in the value of excellent documentation
    • Demonstrated project management capabilities, including the ability to translate the needs and preferences of customers and colleagues into technical requirements
    • Capability to motivate staff, provide useful feedback on their work, and continuously improve their effectiveness as individual engineers and analysts, and as a team
