Position Summary
Contest Every Race is incubated by Movement Labs, the leading peer-to-peer texting political consultancy supporting progressives and grassroots activists nationwide. Our clients span both establishment and movement efforts, from senior Democratic Congressional leadership to Black Lives Matter.
Contest Every Race’s data work focuses on managing data through voter file list pulls to millions of texts, tracking whether someone wants to file now or later and what for, and measuring and reporting on our work. Our organizing work focuses on collaboration with Democratic County Parties across the country, primarily in red and underserved areas where we are focusing on recruiting candidates and bolstering local parties.
The Data Manager will join our overall data department within the company but work on our Contest Every Race program. They will report to the CER Managing Director.
Responsibilities
- Acting as our committee administrator for multiple state party VAN/Votebuilder instances and our internally used EveryAction instance, including training, supporting, and setting up users, uploading data, devising data tracking and codes.
- Cleaning and analyzing data, querying and report building, and synchronizing data between multiple systems across our CRMs, texting and digital tools.
- Liaising with our wider Movement Labs data and tech team on projects.
- Collaboration with CER leadership, particularly the organizing director, to ensure our organizing and program teams have data and analysis support.
- Liaising with State Party data teams for use of Votebuilder/VAN and data access and appending to their systems.
- General list and data management – updates, prepping, cleaning, matching.
- Building and maintaining internal and external reports and data structures for the CER team’s work, involving working with our wider MLabs team.
- Analyze effects of our programs and strategies, and serve as a strategist on our team ensuring our decision making is data-driven.
- Liaising with state party data teams, our internal data team, and other stakeholders to provide support and information.
- Occasional training and troubleshooting with non-staff audiences like county parties.
- As needed, chipping in with operations work, such as texting set up, document creation, and project management.
Requirements
- Significant experience with spreadsheets, VAN, EveryAction, and list systems (TargetSmart, Catalist) is required.
- Experience with SQL and data reporting is required.
- Experience with texting systems like Spoke preferred.
- 4+ years of experience, preferably within the Democratic Party ecosystem at a state level, especially having experience as a state data director.
- Thorough understanding of how politics works at the state and local level.
- Eagerness and excitement to empower, coordinate, collaborate, and troubleshoot with direct reports, lateral staff, and manage upwards.
- Experience with basic tech like Slack, Asana, Zoom, Google Sheets, and eagerness to jump into learning new tools like Spoke and Prompt as necessary
- Deep understanding and belief in the need for more progressive candidates to run and win for all levels of elected office and local rural actors being supported within the Democratic ecosystem.
Benefits
Pay will be $65,000-$75,000 a year commensurate with experience. Movement Labs employees receive excellent health, dental, and vision benefits, access to a 401K account, tech stipends, and unlimited Paid Time Off.
