POSITION DESCRIPTION

America Votes is seeking a well-organized self-starter for a full-time, 2022 cycle position as the Data Manager in the following States: FL, GA, NV, PA. The Data Manager plays a key role in the advancement of the progressive movement, both through issue advocacy and electoral activities. This person will support data coordination related to campaign plans, support the state data director in VAN administration, and support partners in the use of data contact tools. This position is ideal for someone with political and VAN experience who is eager to learn more about data OR a person with strong data experience wanting to learn more about progressive politics. The person must have a passion for helping others do their best work. The position works directly with the America Votes team, as well as dozens of progressive partners across the state.

The Data Manager will be responsible for supporting partner organizations running programs in the state including field operations, integrating best practices, and using voter contact tools like VAN, Scale to Win, and BallotReady. The position ends December 31, 2022.

LOCATION

The Program and Data Manager positions are based in the state where they are assigned. The cities below are the preferred but not the required location. Other localities in the state are negotiable.

The role may require some travel and reasonable access to an airport is required. America Votes is currently working remotely, however if you are based in a state with an America Votes office, a hybrid approach may be possible depending on local guidance during the temporary period of remote work.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to partner data support requests and make sure all requests receive a timely response.
  • Create and curate documentation and training materials for a variety of audiences, including state partner organizations.
  • Provide training on direct voter contact tools, VAN,Scale to Win, BallotReady, etc. Support partner implementation and provide troubleshooting assistance in using a wide range of partners’ voter contact tools. 
  • Provide support to the data director in VAN administration including functions like script creation, bulk uploads, user creation, and export requests. 
  • Support coalition coordination by tracking electoral and advocacy programs including organizational programs, monitoring benchmarks, providing technical assistance including scaling up tactics and basic use of tools like VAN, and identifying gaps in collective strategy.
  • Support events of America Votes partners and allies including coalition meetings and trainings.
  • Support coalition and work group meetings, sometimes on short notice.
  • Create and conduct training on voter contact tools for partners, staff training on campaign related topics for partners. Create content for presentations and related materials.
  • Develop and complete reports on progress toward team and coalition campaign goals. This may include extensive use of google suite tools and programs as well as other America Votes campaign coordination tools. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • Ideal candidates will have at least 2 years of experience in progressive political campaigns progressive non-profits (with an organizing focus), or similar transferable experience.
  • Experience working with underrepresented and/or historically marginalized communities. particularly in political, electoral, and organizing settings.
  • Strong sense of ownership and resilience with respect to planning ahead, finding alternative paths when needed, and bouncing back from setbacks and rejections. Demonstrated ability to move people to action and hold them accountable with and without formal authority.
  •  Candidates should have an understanding of common direct voter contact programs, including experience working withVAN (Voter Activation Network). Familiarity with other direct voter contact tools (GetThru, Scale to Win, Impactive, Hustle, etc.) a plus. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, negotiate, and strategically disagree within a highly collaborative work environment; ability to be respected by progressive stakeholders, to be trusted to lead and to be able to practice confidentiality, discretion and legal compliance in the work.
  • Ability to work independently and to drive and manage own workload; ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively by making and meeting team goals. Excellent communication, presentation, and time management skills, with attention to detail.
  • High level of competency with Excel or Google Sheets, Google Slides Presentations or related tools. Must be comfortable using spreadsheets and should have be able to quickly pick up: pivot tables, filters, text to columns, and creating simple charts using Excel or a similar tool. 
  • Ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience dealing with large datasets using data manipulation tools (SQL, Python, R) or data visualization tools (Tableau, Google Data Studio, Periscope, etc.) are a plus.
  • Ability to travel within the state (as needed); ability to work irregular campaign style hours, , especially during the peak months of the electoral cycle. Must be a self-starter. 
  • Candidates should have a spirit of service and curiosity, along with a diplomatic approach to problem-solving in work with outside partners and while working independently or on a team.

PREFERRED

  • Knowledge of and experience with independent expenditure political campaigns.
  • Familiarity with digital and/or mail campaigns and tools.

COMPENSATION

The salary for this position will be between $50,000-60,000 ($4,167 – $5,000 monthly) and depend upon the applicant’s experience. America Votes offers a competitive benefits package covering 90% of employee medical, dental, & vision insurance premiums, life insurance, long term disability coverage, cell phone stipend, personal professional development funds, parental leave, and 401 (K) after six months of continuous service with the organization. America Votes provides a generous paid time off policy with paid vacation, paid sick leave and personal days, at least 10 Federal paid holidays including Juneteenth, as well as paid organizational time off from at least December 25 to January 1.   • Ideal candidates will have at least 2 years of experience in progressive political campaigns progressive non-profits (with an organizing focus), or similar transferable experience.
  • Experience working with underrepresented and/or historically marginalized communities. particularly in political, electoral, and organizing settings.
  • Strong sense of ownership and resilience with respect to planning ahead, finding alternative paths when needed, and bouncing back from setbacks and rejections. Demonstrated ability to move people to action and hold them accountable with and without formal authority.
  •  Candidates should have an understanding of common direct voter contact programs, including experience working withVAN (Voter Activation Network). Familiarity with other direct voter contact tools (GetThru, Scale to Win, Impactive, Hustle, etc.) a plus. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, negotiate, and strategically disagree within a highly collaborative work environment; ability to be respected by progressive stakeholders, to be trusted to lead and to be able to practice confidentiality, discretion and legal compliance in the work.
  • Ability to work independently and to drive and manage own workload; ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively by making and meeting team goals. Excellent communication, presentation, and time management skills, with attention to detail.
  • High level of competency with Excel or Google Sheets, Google Slides Presentations or related tools. Must be comfortable using spreadsheets and should have be able to quickly pick up: pivot tables, filters, text to columns, and creating simple charts using Excel or a similar tool. 
  • Ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Experience dealing with large datasets using data manipulation tools (SQL, Python, R) or data visualization tools (Tableau, Google Data Studio, Periscope, etc.) are a plus.
  • Ability to travel within the state (as needed); ability to work irregular campaign style hours, , especially during the peak months of the electoral cycle. Must be a self-starter. 
  • Candidates should have a spirit of service and curiosity, along with a diplomatic approach to problem-solving in work with outside partners and while working independently or on a team.

PREFERRED

  • Knowledge of and experience with independent expenditure political campaigns.
  • Familiarity with digital and/or mail campaigns and tools. 
  • Experience administering programs using VAN or willingness to learn.
  • Experience or training in race equity/anti-racist frameworks; a general understanding of how power. intersects with gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and class in organizing and electoral settings.

COMPENSATION

The salary for this position will be between $50,000-60,000 ($4,167 – $5,000 monthly) and depend upon the applicant’s experience.
