Position Summary

About Us

Down Ballot Climate Partners, LLC (DBCP) is a new political startup focused on the premise that in order to reach our climate goals, we must start electing pro-climate candidates at the local level. We help organizations and donors invest in local elections with outsized climate and environmental justice impacts.

Identifying the most important jurisdictions to achieve environmental justice, reduce carbon emissions and create job opportunities for a clean future is tough, but we’ve found that by building new data models and other related data products, we can find especially high impact opportunities. These products are very helpful both for our internal team, but also the broader field, so we’re excited to continue to expand the program to maximize impact through data.

Position Summary & Scope of Work

Our data modeling work has become a key pillar in our strategy and has helped us in identifying the most important jurisdictions that matter for climate and environmental justice. In order to execute on our strategy successfully, we’re looking for a motivated product manager who can help us maximize our data-model work; someone who’s excited to dive into datasets and drive this program forward. This person reports to the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Product manage the data modeling work, along with interfaces to make the work accessible. We are currently focused on aggregating, and then refining, different datasets to map out the most important jurisdictions for clean energy deployment and dirty energy hotspots to phase out.
  • Manage the full sprint cycle(s), lead the collaboration and work plans of all project stakeholders: DBCP team, engineering, data vendors and specialist consultants.
  • Ensure the project is executed effectively and achieves its goals, while maintaining budgetary, scheduling, and quality requirements.
  • Interpret the data and clearly communicate to donors and donor staff, key elements and our newest insights from the models through data driven writing, visual slides and oral storytelling.
  • Make the datasets & findings accessible and easy to work with so they can be leveraged by our team and allies to better identify the most consequential for climate and environmental justice venues.
  • Ensure the data methodologies, definitions, workflows and sources are properly documented.

Qualifications & Evaluation Criteria

  • Experienced product and/or project manager of data-driven products.
  • Comfortable working with and interpreting large datasets and experience leading technical projects.
    • A plus: understanding and/or experience of carbon logic, energy data and data communications.
  • Tech savvy: passionate about continuing learning new skills and excited to test new products to find ways to better leverage new tech to power our work.
  • Experience with structured data in spreadsheets (pivot tables, vlookup, etc) and SQL.
  • Excellent project management and proven ability moving a team forward.
  • Excellent written skills and data storytelling. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate data-rich insights through written documents and visual slides. Rigorous attention to detail. Strong documentation skills.
  • Startup-mindset: ability to work with ambiguity, motivated to learn and get things done, and always find ways to improve current systems.
  • A belief that clean energy deployment is critical for a just and sustainable future and that local governments (across the political spectrum) have an important role to play in that transition. Eagerness to dive into this work.
