Position Summary

The Texas Democratic Party has a reputation for being on the cutting edge of political data. In 2020, we developed our own partisanship model in-house. Now we’re looking for a Data Scientist who can not only improve that model, but help us dream up and build the next big data innovation.

The ideal applicant will have experience using data and the latest modelling tools to provide actionable insights about a variety of programs. The ideal applicant will also have experience with data visualization and creating actionable analytic products. Previous experience with political data is a plus but not necessary.

This is a cycle position, with full time employment through November 2022. It reports directly to the Director of Data Science. Remote work is available.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve the Texas Partisanship Model
  • Recommend and build new data products
  • Analyze fundraising and organizing data for actionable insights
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Data Science

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with other teams to create actionable reporting products

Required Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience working as a software developer and/or data scientist
  • Experience with Python, Gitlab / Github, and SQL
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and experience explaining technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Experience:

  • Political or electoral experience, including having volunteered with campaigns
  • Familiarity with VAN, Hustle, ThruText, Reach, OutVote, or other progressive voter contact tools
  • Experience with data visualization and/or building analytics dashboards (Google Data Studio)
  • Experience with relational organizing or social network data
  • Experience with GIS or geographic data analysis
