Position Summary

Overview:

The Michigan Democratic Party is seeking a Deputy Data Director for Analytics Engineering, based in Detroit, MI, to support the Biden Campaign and Democrats up and down the ballot by supporting the Coordinated campaign’s data analytics program. We are looking for individuals with a variety of backgrounds and experience, and are dedicated to building a team that looks like America. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering vertical on the Data & Analytics team: hire, train, and manage engineers
  • Manage engineering projects: create project plans, write user stories, assign tasks, and ensure we meet engineering project deadlines
  • Design, build, and maintain core data assets that provide clean, accurate data for analysis and reporting
  • Create tools to allow Analytics staff to better manage ETL/data cleaning, data movement, and data infrastructure for the 2024 Coordinated campaign
  • Support development of automated tests and toolsets to allow the entire Analytics team to write consistent, bug-free code
  • Other tasks as needed in support of the analytics team and Coordinated campaign

 

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience managing people and projects
  • 2+ years of experience as a data engineer, engineering-focused analyst, database administrator, software engineer, or similar
  • 2+ years using SQL, Python, and other scripting languages professionally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively and clearly communicate with others
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong ability to communicate priorities and needs orally and in writing
  • A desire to ask questions, receive constructive feedback, and grow as a professional
  • A desire to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and implement creative solutions to unique problems
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion in working with staff and other stakeholders
  • Capacity and desire to work long hours in a campaign setting

 

Additional Useful Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working with political data (especially VAN)
  • Experience using dbt
  • GCP experience (in particular, BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage)
  • Experience volunteering or working on a political campaign data team

 

This position will report to the Michigan Data & Analytics Director. 

This position offers a starting salary of $6,000 – $7,000 per month based on experience and includes a full benefits package with health, vision and dental insurance.
