Director of Data & Research

Galvanize USA | Remote | Permanent

Position Summary

Galvanize USA, a non-profit advocacy organization that brings women across the country together to encourage civic engagement and combat disinformation in politics, is in search of a Director of Data & Research who will create and direct a comprehensive strategy for the organization that results in cutting edge learnings, high impact results, and advances the knowledge of the US social justice movement.

The Director of Data & Research is responsible for understanding and synthesizing an array of public opinion and messaging research to highlight key strategic takeaways and will take the lead in crafting our own original messaging research. We’re looking for a strategic leader with at least three cycles of experience in political research who will apply their skills to further our collective understanding of the threats, opportunities, and strategies necessary to advance progress.

What you’ll do:

  • Direct research strategy, staffing, and operations for the Data & Research department, as well as serving as a thought partner to senior staff on organization-wide priorities and direction
  • Act as a spokesperson for the department, presenting findings to external partners and allies
  • Build a network of strategic allies and resources for the department and organization
  • Synthesize original research, partner research, and publicly-available research for monthly research summaries, identifying strategic opportunities and threats for movement partners to know
  • Field requests for specialized research projects, in many cases requiring rapid turnaround
  • Manage, mentor and provide direct supervision for the Data & Research Department (two employees)
  • Share research and data learnings throughout the organization
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure timely release of research and data on the website, collateral, and trainings for the movement
  • Develop, manage, and maintain relationships with vendors and consultants
  • Be responsible for message and creative development, testing, refinement, and measurement

About You:

  • You’re an experienced leader and creative thinker, who is passionate about unlocking the power of women to advance progress for all. You should have:
  • You’ve provided research and data-oriented solutions within a political organization or campaign
  • You have the ability to parse and understand research and public opinion data with a critical lens and in a pragmatic, real world, and actionable way — and tell a story with it
  • You can adapt in response to a quick-shifting political environment in a young organization that moves quickly
  • You’re a relationship builder, with staff at all levels and allies, and will become a trusted partner who’s relied on to provide strategic advice and direction
  • You have management experience, and can mentor and manage remote reports
  • You work collaboratively, work well under pressure and deadlines, and manage multiple priorities and projects effectively

Qualifications

  • Minimum eight years’ experience in strategic campaigning and/or political research, and at least three cycles of experience in political research
  • Experience with qualitative instrument design (i.e. focus groups, surveys, qual boards) and data analysis
  • Knowledge of VAN
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python, R, or any other language efficient for analyzing large datasets
  • Familiarity with predictive models and probabilities, and their application to voter targeting/segmentation
  • Experience using and configuring Tableau, d3, Shiny, or other data visualization languages or platforms
  • Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience

Salary range: $110,000 – $120,000

Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance, up to 6% employer match on 401k contributions, pre-tax transportation benefits, and paid holidays, vacation, sick, and volunteer time off.
