Sales Representative, New Markets

Grow Progress | Remote| Remote Possible | Permanent

Position Summary

Grow Progress helps some of the largest campaigns and consultants change the minds of more people.

We’re looking for someone who wants to be part of a team that’s pioneering a new approach to persuasion.

If you’re good at tackling a new market and experimentally writing a sales playbook as you go, we hope you’ll apply.

Who We Are

Grow Progress is pioneering a new approach to persuasion: we give customers the power to persuade more people based on how they think — not just how they look. We help them tailor their messages to better resonate with target audiences, and then scientifically test their messages to maximize the number of people they persuade.

Our team is chock-full of experienced campaigners and data scientists who are obsessed with harnessing the power of evidence to make social good advocates more effective. We’re a bunch of ambitious, scrappy nerds who like to make each other laugh.

We currently work with many of the biggest Democratic pollsters, marketing agencies, advocacy groups, and labor unions in the country.

The Challenge

It’s easy to sell our products to customers who already know us or get referred to us. But we haven’t yet unlocked the broader market. We don’t yet have a replicable playbook for generating cold leads and closing them. We’re still testing our products in new customer segments. And like any early-stage company, our personas, pitch, quotas, and lead gen practices are all works in progress.

We need you to play a significant part in co-authoring our playbook and iterating on our pitch, all while closing contracts with customers. This means close collaboration with our CEO and product teams.

That makes this role much different than sales jobs in more mature organizations. Most high-performing salespeople need a well worked-out playbook, and will not succeed in this role. To succeed in this role, you will need to be what experts call a “Renaissance Rep.”

The Role

Non-traditional (Renaissance) Sales Activities

  • Partner with the executive, product, and marketing teams to accelerate our journey along the “Sales Learning Curve
  • Uncover and clarify customer pain points, motivations, messaging, objections, processes, and hurdles
  • Convert these findings into a high-quality pitch and supporting sales materials
  • Advocate for the product needs of prospective customers

Traditional Sales Activities

  • Identify, prioritize, and prospect new customers
  • Understand customer use-cases, demonstrate our product, and evangelize our vision
  • Close deals
  • Support and collaborate on a smooth customer onboarding journey
  • Keep our CRM up to date

Skills and Characteristics

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguous environments
  • Deep interest in the products themselves
  • Talent for bringing customers together with our internal functional teams.
  • Scrappy and resourceful at getting people in the door
  • Intellectually curious enough to try new approaches and generate insights from the results
  • Interpersonally curious enough to uncover what really drives customers
  • Creative in honing the pitch
  • Evangelistic in spreading your learnings across our internal teams
  • Standard sales skills like the ability to dig up leads, build great rapport, deliver a good pitch, provide strong follow-up, negotiate, and close deals

Experience

  • 4+ years of experience sellings new products in untested markets, at 2+ companies
    • Candidates who have successful sales or related backgrounds and can also demonstrate significant success skills related to the “Renaissance Sales Activities” will also be considered
  • A track record of significantly exceeding the performance of your peers
  • Ability to communicate data science concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Progressive values
  • Proactive leadership to determine what we need and make it happen
  • U.S. work authorization
  • Experience working in politics with campaigns or advocacy organizations is a plus

More About Grow Progress

Our culture is fun, fast-paced, and focused on evidence. We aim to cultivate an environment where creative hypotheses and evidence drive our decisions rather than just anecdotes, and where everyone feels comfortable contributing ideas — even if it’s on a topic outside of their expertise. We work hard to get smarter together by giving each other feedback that’s direct, actionable, and respectful. We’re deeply motivated by the work we do and committed to using this technology ethically, so we’re looking for teammates who feel the same way.

We’re an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse company. Qualified people of any race, ethnicity, culture, age, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, social class, marital status, religion, veteran status, or disability status are strongly encouraged to apply.

Compensation: $110k OTE, $80k base, plus equity in a fast growing startup. Benefits include a company health plan with medical, dental, and vision insurance, a flexible PTO plan, and a 401(k) with employer matching, among others.
