Position Summary

We’re looking for a software engineer with data engineering chops who is eager to have a direct impact on hundreds of Democratic campaigns in 2021 and 2022. This is a unique opportunity to shape the American political landscape in a meaningful way, simultaneously engaging passionate grassroots volunteers and contributing directly to ballot-box outcomes. Tech For Campaigns is scaling up to support more than 200 campaigns in 2022 and flip as many seats as possible. We’ve already built a number of in-house systems, including a data warehouse, to help us do this, but we need your help. This technology will not only have a major impact on the 2021 and 2022 elections but also on thousands of campaigns for many cycles to come.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Design, build, and support data processing pipelines to transform large datasets of campaign information and calculate relevant and actionable statistics for campaign practitioners
  • Expand the internal tooling that sits on top of our data warehouse to power TFC’s 15,000+ strong volunteer operation for 2022
  • Architect and administer our internal infrastructure
  • Propose and implement improvements to existing technologies
  • Advise our awesome volunteer engineering teams

WHAT YOU’VE GOT

  • Solid experience with backend and database tools (Python/Flask, BigQuery, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Some experience with modern frontend development (Typescript, React, CSS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with dashboarding tools and data visualization (Google Data Studio)
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with digital advertising and analytics, digital marketing, BS or higher in Computer Science or a related discipline, technical project management ability (costing, task tracking, workflow, etc.)

WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Small teams with lots of autonomy
  • Flexibility to work on different types of tools and services, from ETL pipelines to web apps
  • Opportunities to use the latest tech, learn it inside and out, and teach others
  • A chance to help Democratic candidates across the country

NITTY-GRITTY

The role is full-time, remote (to US residents within Pacific to Eastern timezones), and comes with health/dental/vision benefits. Salary range is $125,000 – $135,000 commensurate with experience level.

PLEASE KEEP READING…

Research shows that while men often apply to jobs when they meet only 60% of the criteria, women and other marginalized folks tend to only apply when they check every box. So, if you think you have what it takes even if you don’t necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch. We’d love to have a chat and see if you could be a great fit.
