TRAINING AND DATA LEAD JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Training and Data Lead with a deep understanding of the skills and capacity needed to implement organizing and civic engagement campaigns. Our ideal candidate will have experience training and building curriculum as well as supporting leaders and organizers in the field. The Training and Data Lead is responsible for supporting program design and facilitation of the Data and Organizing Integration (DOI) program and will support our Youth Organizing Institute (YOI) program. They will coordinate and administer the DOI program with our regional partners across the state. The ideal candidate will develop tools and resources for NYCET’s partners as well as coordinate training and other engagement opportunities for the partner network. They will work under the direction of the Data and Technology Director as part of the NYCET Data and Technology team to provide comprehensive support to partners with the guidance and support of the Executive Director.
Principal Responsibilities include:
- Support program design and facilitation of Data and Organizing Integration (DOI) program and Youth Organizing Institute
- Conduct trainings and workshops on various civic engagement skills
- Conduct regular meetings and consultations with organizers, partner staff, leaders, and community members; coordinate collaborative projects among partner partner groups
- Track the development of leaders across the state
- Meet with partners one on one as needed, ex. troubleshooting an issue, thinking through a campaign plan, planning for upcoming work.
- Advise and coach partners and NYCET staff on best practices for integrating data with field programming
- Data onboarding: Assessment of data skills and needs for partners joining the Table
- Tools onboarding: Training on use of Spoke, ThruTalk, VAN (MyVoters and MyCampaign), and miniVAN
- Digital security: How partners can implement digital security practices into their work
Tools Administration & Maintenance
- Administering VAN, including but not limited to: building universes, matching and bulk uploading membership data, creating VAN committees and user accounts.
- Building Spoke campaigns and creating new Spoke organizations as needed.
- Uploading ThruTalk lists and building ThruTalk scripts.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, adept at problem solving, and able to thrive in a fast paced work environment dedicated to social, economic, and racial justice.
- A minimum of 5 years political/ electoral organizing, community organizing, union organizing, and/ or legislative issue advocacy experience required
- Experience training racially, ethnically and economically diverse leaders, organizers and volunteers
- Expert facilitation and training skills
- Knowledge of New York’s political and policy landscape
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Spanish language skills are strongly desired but not required
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to translate technical instructions into easy-to-follow language for non-technical audiences.
- Experience administering VAN (Voter Activation Network)/VoteBuilder or other civic engagement platforms.
- Experience administering voter contact tools, such as peer to peer texting, phone banking, or relational organizing platforms.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets skills.
- Familiarity with common direct voter contact methods and tactics. Working knowledge of the structure of political and civic engagement campaigns.
- Demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity and record of success working with communities of color, women, low-income people, LGBTQIA individuals, and other historically marginalized communities. Commitment to approaching the work in an inclusive and empathetic way.
COMPENSATION: Compensation is $65,000 – $70,000. Benefits for eligible New York Civic Engagement Table employees include but are not limited to: medical insurance, 401(k) savings plan with employer contribution, paid vacation, personal, sick, and parental leave.
