Position Summary

The Florida Democratic Party is seeking a full-time Data Director to manage the party’s data team. The Data Director will bring strong technical and program management skills, as well as a holistic understanding of the Florida political landscape and how to best utilize/analyze voter data. At the Florida Democratic Party we view the data department’s core role as solving problems that involve data and information, informing investment and programmatic decisions with quality data, and protecting data using sophisticated tools and training. As part of this core competency, we administer VAN in partnership with county parties and campaigns; create reports to support the work that staff and volunteers are doing throughout the state of Florida; and implement and train our candidates, elected officials, Party leadership and partners on data best practices. In addition, the data team is responsible for generating targets for voter outreach and tracking progress to goals across Ground Team departments.

Primary Responsibilities
• Administer Florida’s VAN VoteBuilder database
• Managing the Data Team, currently comprised of a Voter File Manager, who helps administer VAN
• Provide training, documentation, office hours, and helpdesk support to Florida VAN users

• Meet with local parties and caucuses to discuss their common needs and find workable solutions
• Implement systems for data sharing and access within VAN for various organization types
• Assist the Field, Voter Registration, and Candidates & Campaigns departments with any and all data needs
• Coordinate with staff on the creation, execution, and analysis of targeted voter contact universes
• Work with state and national stakeholders to build voter contact and volunteer recruitment universes
• Collaborate across departments to design and build reports that track the state programming
• Develop, maintain, and implement data standards to ensure accurate tracking and analysis of programs

• Coordinating with partners to share voter contact data, proactively support planning direct voter contact, and communicate with stakeholders

Skills and Requirements

• Experience with VAN/VoteBuilder as both a user and an administrator
• Familiarity with advanced spreadsheet formulas and conditional formatting
• Ability to communicate technical information to a wide audience in a clear, succinct manner
• At least 1 cycle of prior experience as data staff on a campaign or at a state party
• Proficient at working with data in SQL, preferably in Phoenix or BigQuery

• Familiarity with Google Looker Studio, QGIS, Tableau or other data visualization tools

Logistics

• Position is based in Florida with most work being remote. Preference is given to Florida residents.

• Applicants must have the willingness and flexibility to work weekend and evening hours, particularly during periods leading up to key election dates.
