Success for us at the end of the two-year partnership includes increased capacity of district staff and their ability to monitor the success of their programs. As a result, we hope to see staff using a regularly using a consistent process to provide rapid and practical feedback to program stakeholders and district leadership to make appropriate adjustments to specific recovery strategies.
Working within the Division of Accountability, Research and Planning, the SDP Fellow will work closely with GCS’ research partners at NWEA, AIR, and Harvard to learn how various academic recovery strategies such as tutoring, extended calendar programs, newly implemented curriculum programs, summer school, etc., have affected student achievement, particularly among student groups most affected by the pandemic.
Additionally, the SDP fellow will help examine effectiveness and implementation of the identified programs as well as identify the components or practices that have helped the program succeed or those that impede progress. Specifically, the scope of work for the SDP fellow will include:
  • Develop internal systems/procedures for monitoring academic recovery programs (e.g., administering and analyzing surveys, conducting interviews/focus groups with stakeholders and analyzing data to guide district learning and improvement).
  • Clean and analyze survey and administrative data that could be used for implementation study (e.g., inform/guide selection of interview participants and case school sites, explore trends in tutoring uptake across schools).
  • Schedule/coordinate focus groups with parents and students at school sites to support data collection for implementation study.
  • Assist with development of interview/focus group protocols for implementation study.
  • Assist with data collection for cost effectiveness analysis of program interventions.
  • Analyze collected data to determine effectiveness of various programs on student recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Develop a process to provide rapid and practical feedback to our program managers and district leadership so we can make appropriate adjustments to specific recovery strategies.
