The Data and Training Coordinator is responsible for providing training and coaching to NYCET’s partner organizations to support them in integrating data and tools into their civic engagement work. The ideal candidate will maintain and expand NYCET’s suite of data and tools, while building relationships with partners to support them in implementing the use of those data and tools. The Data and Training Coordinator works in partnership with the other Data and Training Coordinator as part of the NYCET Capacity and Data team and works at the direction of the Capacity and Data Director. This position is currently remote but based in NY with travel and in person meetings likely in the future.

Principal Responsibilities include:

Tools Administration & Maintenance

  • Administering VAN, including but not limited to: building universes, matching and bulk uploading membership data, creating VAN committees and user accounts.
  • Building Spoke (peer to peer SMS program) campaigns and creating new Spoke organizations as needed.
  • Debugging Spoke and evaluating practices to minimize carrier violations.
  • Uploading ThruTalk lists and building ThruTalk scripts.
  • Creating and updating guides in Freshdesk (help desk ticketing system) as needed.
  • Updating NYCET servers on a weekly basis.
  • Maintaining, updating, and creating dashboards in Periscope/Sisense.

Data Capacity Building

  • Supporting curriculum design and facilitation for:
  • Data onboarding: Assessment of data skills and needs for partners joining the Table
  • Tools onboarding: Training on use of Spoke, ThruTalk, VAN (MyVoters and MyCampaign), and miniVAN
  • Field training: Voter registration & GOTV field practices, integrating data and tools into issue and policy based campaigns
  • Digital security: How partners can implement digital security practices into their work
  • Supporting program design and facilitation of Data in Organizing Innovation program and Youth Organizing Institute.
  • Meeting with partners one on one as needed, ex. troubleshooting an issue, thinking through a campaign plan, planning for upcoming work, and evaluation.
  • Identifying opportunities to train and support data and tools practitioners at Table.
  • Advising and coaching partners and NYCET staff on best practices for integrating data with field programming.
  • Seeking out and learning new technical skills that will further the mission of the table, and assist in presenting data to partners in an accessible manner.

 

Qualifications

  • At least one previous cycle organizing in political, nonprofit, labor, or community organization, either paid or unpaid required.
  • Experience with the VAN (Voter Activation Network)/VoteBuilder or other civic engagement platforms) required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, while maintaining a high level of detail orientation and meeting deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, adept at problem solving, and able to thrive in a fast-paced work.
  • Familiarity with tools for outreach, especially peer to peer SMS and predictive dialers (Spoke and ThruTalk a plus).
  • Experience with Excel and/or Google Sheets.
  • Familiarity with SQL a plus.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity and record of success working with communities of color, women, low-income people, LGBTQIA individuals, and other historically marginalized communities.
  • Commitment to approaching the work in an inclusive and empathetic way.
  • Experience developing data, tools and/or field trainings preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships.

 

Compensation: $60,000-$65,000, dependent on experience. Benefits for eligible New York Civic Engagement Table employees include but are not limited to: medical insurance, 401(k) savings plan with employer contribution, paid vacation, personal leave, sick, and parental leave.
