Data Manager Job Description
The Data Manager is a frontline position on OnePA’s Development team and will be responsible for supporting the adoption and successful use of EveryAction and VAN, and our organizing and voter data architecture within OnePA. Primary responsibilities will include administering the OnePA EveryAction and VAN systems, delivering one on one and group trainings for users tailored to their expected use of EveryAction and VAN, and responding to data requests from OnePA staff and affiliates.
Position Summary
The Data Manager will report to the Director of Development and will work closely with OnePA’s Civic Engagement, Organizing and Operations teams. In addition to practical experience in EveryAction and VAN, the ideal candidate has excellent product support or client success skills and has a track record of balancing tasks and projects from multiple work streams. We estimate that candidates will have at least one year of relevant experience, but our review of candidates for this role will focus on whether they can fill the needs of the position, not years of experience.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as primary administrator to the OnePA EveryAction and VAN instances; Respond to data requests from our staff quickly and efficiently;
- Train and support staff in the use of EveryAction and VAN and the adoption of OnePA data architecture for organizing and voter engagement;
- Collaborate with department directors and table partners America Votes and State Voices to complete staff EveryAction and VAN support requests, voter file matches and data uploads;
- Ensure data integrity and cleanliness in our EveryAction and VAN committees, including de-duping and quality control;
- Provide quality control and system integration support for tools and systems that integrate with EveryAction and VAN, including ActBlue, Paragon, WealthEngine, Mobilize, Hustle, and others. Conduct timely and relevant analysis of data, create visualizations, and convey complex information to non-experts;
- Work with department heads and lead staff to define metrics, review program efficacy and develop strategic insights.
- Collaborate with partners and Operations Department to develop and implement provisions for data and system security.
- Additional responsibilities may include: building out new EveryAction committees, creating documentation, improving training materials, triaging EveryAction and VAN support requests, monitoring integration between EveryAction, VAN and other core tools, data hygiene projects, and identifying opportunities to apply for new resources or new collaborations.
- The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Significant experience with EveryAction and/or NGPVAN and the ability to quickly connect program goals with system functionality.
- Organizing experience and/or electoral experience.
- Experience creating and delivering trainings for users and the ability to train and communicate technical concepts with non-technical people across lines of difference.
- Demonstrated experience in data management including, but not limited to, wrangling large datasets, performing data quality control and cleaning, etc.
- Creative problem-solving skills and a solutions-oriented perspective when working with end users.
- Customer service, product service, client success, or support experience.
- Experience with ActBlue, Mobilize, Hustle, and other common movement tools is a plus but not required.
- Deep understanding of how data intersects with field, organizing, development and communications.
- Experience building and presenting reports and data visualization that identify key trends; experience with Tableau and/or Periscope is preferred but not required). Ability to communicate complicated data and analytics reports to stakeholders, including those with less data expertise.
- A demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice and a deep understanding of challenges facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, communities of color, disabled people, LGBTQ+ folks, and people at the intersections of the above communities.
Salary and Benefits
Salary will be determined according to a salary scale that takes into account years’ experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to start at $60,000. Benefits package includes a fully paid health, dental and vision insurance plan, optional 401K with a generous employer match after 6 months, professional development opportunities and substantial paid time off.
Requirements
This job requires the ability to communicate, exchange information and operate a computer for extended periods of time. It also requires infrequent travel and the ability to occasionally work evenings, weekends or long hours.
