Position Summary

The ACLU seeks to fill the full-time position of Senior Analyst on the Analytics team of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY or Washington, DC. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month. 

The ACLU Analytics team partners with teams across the organization to enable the ACLU to make smart, evidence-based decisions and bring quantitative insights on our issues to the courtroom and the public. Our team’s work ranges from social science research for litigation & advocacy, to analysis & reporting for fundraising and engagement, to building and maintaining our data infrastructure. We strive to ensure the ACLU leads by example in the ethical use of data and technology. This includes maintaining our privacy and security standards, pushing for transparent data practices from government and corporate actors, and helping to steward high standards for algorithmic fairness, accountability, and transparency.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Reporting to the Director of Affiliate & Advocacy Analytics, the Senior Analyst will specialize in electoral and advocacy work, working in close partnership with our National political advocacy staff and ACLU affiliates. This includes partnering with National & affiliate stakeholders to understand needs, conduct analyses, and translate results for non-technical audiences.

Using VAN/other sources, work with stakeholders and coalition partners to support voter contact strategies, develop field organizing strategies, and establish protocols and best practices for data collection and storage. The Senior Analyst will maintain documentation of voter contact information & turnout, build target universes, and conduct descriptive/statistical analysis. This position is also responsible for conducting and/or monitoring A/B testing and creating narrative/analytical/visual advocacy materials.

YOUR DAY TO DAY

  • Conduct statistical/descriptive/visual analyses to support electoral decision-making priorities for National/affiliate partners
  • Author/co-author advocacy reports for both National/affiliate partners
  • Manage projects, including identifying risks, milestone development, and running retrospectives
  • Coordinate and manage technical vendors and/or partners

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to conduct complex data manipulations and descriptive analyses in a database query language (e.g. SQL) and in an analytics programming language (e.g. R, Python)
  • Proficiency with at least one tool (e.g. Tableau/Looker) to develop accessible visualizations, dashboards, and reports.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and analyzing randomized experiments
  • Ability to integrate multiple sources of data
  • Voter file analysis experience
  • Expert knowledge of VAN (Voter Activation Network)
  • Familiarity with electoral models and indices
  • Advanced statistical skillset
  • A background with electoral campaigns, specifically with voter engagement & turnout.
  • Familiarity establishing management frameworks; creating business metrics in ambiguous measurement environments to align with team goals and strategy
  • Experience with project management
  • Extensive experience with stakeholder management, specifically in a remote environment

COMPENSATION

The ACLU values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with the ACLU’s compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for this role. The annual salary for this position is $99,612 (Level H), reflective of a position based in New York, NY, where our National offices are headquartered. This salary will be subject to a locality adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
