Position Summary

At Break Something, our clients are using digital media to change the world. We’re a full service digital advertising, consulting, and strategy firm specializing in electing Democrats, furthering causes, and creating change.

We’re looking for a Data Manager to lead our reporting and analytics work. Our ideal candidate is an analytical, tech-savvy strategist with experience building and maintaining databases and data visualization software. We’re looking for someone to design and build dashboards and reports to show how our online fundraising and engagement work is driving results for our clients.

The Data Manager will inherit a data reporting system which uses a custom relational database on AWS, visualized with Google Data Studio. They will be responsible for working with our staff and external data consultants to maintain and improve our reporting system, automate reports for our clients and strategists, and troubleshoot and audit our database for accuracy against the original data sources.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic insights by creating reports, visualizations, tools, and analysis, in collaboration with the firm’s partners and key staff to inform our engagement and fundraising strategies for our clients.
  • Direct the implementation of our company-wide source coding.
  • Oversee any implementation and data migrations or integrations necessary, including new list acquisitions and client migrations between CRMs like NGP-VAN, ActionKit, and ActionNetwork.
  • Provide technical support and training to staff, members, volunteers and affiliates of the organization internal users as appropriate.
  • Ensure the accuracy of metadata tagging, data imports, extracts, analyze the accuracy and reliability of data outputs and make corrections as needed.
  • Ensure complete and accurate data imports, uploads, queries, reports and extracts are performed, including regular data cleansing and maintenance (e.g. deduping records, and other data appends and sweeps).
  • Identify any gaps in process or knowledge, and make recommendations to the data and digital team to improve data collection (e.g., trainings).

Requirements

  • At least one campaign cycle of experience managing data/reporting systems for an agency, political campaign, or advocacy organization.
  • Experience using SQL to query databases.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Google Data Studio to create reporting visualizations.
  • Familiarity with NGP-VAN, Action Network, ActionKit, and/or other progressive CRM/email systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot data problems and explain complex data issues to stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration skills and a customer-service orientation.

Benefits
