Mass Alliance and the Massachusetts Voter Table are seeking a full-time Data Associate to join our team. The Data Associate will assist partner organizations with voter contact field programs. We’re looking for a curious and analytical problem solver who can also convey technical concepts to nontechnical audiences. This position reports to the Mass Alliance and Massachusetts Voter Table Data & Targeting Director and will work on both 501c3 and 501c4 data requests.

About the Massachusetts Voter Table

The Massachusetts Voter Table (MVT) uses integrated voter engagement to increase power of people of color, working-class communities, young people, and new citizens. We convene a coalition of 30 base-building 501c3 organizations to integrate civic engagement with grassroots community organizing. Our core goals include building the capacity of community organizations, increasing civic action by dismantling structural barriers to voter participation, and moving a collective agenda for racial and economic justice.

Position Location: Primarily remote but must reside in the Massachusetts area.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist MVT partner organizations to implement data-driven field programs and digital communications, ensuring benchmarks and goals are met.
  • Advise partner organizations on the use of voter contact and digital organizing tools and assist them in integrating appropriate voter contact and data tools into their engagement programs.
  • Support and on-board partner organizations in the use of civic engagement, voter contact, and digital organizing tools, and assist them in assessing and implementing data integration into programs.
  • Work alongside the Mass Alliance and MVT Data & Targeting Director and Data Team, and Field Team, to implement coordinated table projects and programs.
  • Work with partner organizations using the voter file and other technologies to support and enhance issue advocacy, voter registration and voter contact programs. This includes assisting partners in employing best practices and VAN trainings.
  • Support the creation and development of written reports and products.
  • Support partners field program, including updating scripts, creating survey questions and activist codes, ensuring field data entry is accurate and up-to-date, setting up phone banks, cutting turf.
  • Improve network partners’ data through list matching, and providing training on better data hygiene and data collection practices.

Key Qualifications

  • At least two previous cycles of field experience, or at least one year serving in a data role.
  • Comfortable using Virtual Phone Bank and MiniVAN in a field/volunteer capacity.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, while maintaining a high level of detail orientation and meeting deadlines.
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of people possessing different skill levels.
  • Must be able to work professionally and communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization as well as external contacts, constituents and vendors.
  • Experience working in coalition with partners, or experience working in diverse communities, particularly in communities of color.
  • Candidates must have a willingness and aptitude to seek out and learn new technical skills that will further the mission of the table and assist in presenting data to partners in an accessible manner.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity and record of success working with communities of color, women, low-income people, LGBTQIA individuals, and other historically marginalized communities.
  • Commitment to approaching the work in an inclusive and empathetic way.
  • Experience with the VAN (Voter Activation Network)/VoteBuilder.
  • Intermediate or better skill with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.

Nice to have Technical Skills or a Desire to Learn

  • Peer-to-peer texting software (e.g., ThruText, Hustle, Spoke), relational voter engagement platforms (e.g., Reach, Empower), a plus.
  • Experience using social media or digital organizing tools for volunteer recruitment.

We are hoping for a spring 2022 start.

Compensation: Compensation is $50,000 – $55,000 and includes a full benefits package. Benefits for eligible include but are not limited to: health insurance, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) savings plan with employer match, paid vacation, leave, sick, and parental leave.
